"For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”
- Genesis 18:19
The family was God's idea. In fact, you could say that the Bible is a book of families. From the Garden of Eden, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the covenant family of God, Jesus, and the new covenant family. The family is the building block of the Church and our society. Strong families build strong Churches and strong churches build a strong nation. Look at Abraham, God chose him and his family to be a blessing to the whole world. He was to teach his family the ways of the Lord, impart faith, teach justice, and do what was right in God's sight, generation after generation. We see the fulfillment of this in Jesus, and we are now His family. Yet Biblical family values are being eroded, traditional family is being redefined by politics driven by humanist philosophy. Any drift from God's design will result in weakening the family. Weak families build weak churches, and weak churches build a weak nation. We must pray for families.
Spend a few moments thanking God for your family of origin for your parents and grandparents, and/or for your adopted parents.
Pray for and bless your spouse, children, and grandchildren by name. Pray for protection over them.
Ask how you can teach your family the ways of Jesus, justice, and how to live rightly. It is never too late to start.
Pray for the families in our church, that they will grow strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. And that we would be a church that nurtures strong families.
