This week is City on Our Knees. It is one week a year that we join with thousands of brothers and sisters across our city to pray in unity to see the kingdom of Jesus break into Ottawa.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV)
Reflection
Today, we see President Donald Trump being sworn in. Justin Trudeau has resigned and our parliament is in suspension, meaning that no business can be done until the Liberal party has chosen a new leader. We may be looking at an early election. There is still a war on the edge of Europe. Syria has no sitting government and the Middle East is still in turmoil.
It does not take a political pundit to recognise that we are living in tumultuous times and the grounds of peace, respect for other sovereign nations and the expectation that world leaders will behave in a manner that is for the good of all will continue.
Now more than ever we should heed Paul's exhortation to pray for all those in authority, particularly for our nation, Canada. We should also remember that there is one ruler over all and His name is Jesus and our first allegiance is to Him who is our Lord.
Prayer Points
Incoming President Trump, that he would be led by the Holy Spirit and be surrounded by and listen to wise counsel.
The Liberal party, that they elect the best leader for their party who will lead them with godly wisdom.
For the upcoming Federal election, that we will have a government that will lead well in these challenging and uncertain times.
The Light of God’s love and wisdom will shine on Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, City Council, all first responders, and those in authority over courts of law, schools, hospitals and health care, and detention centres.
Ottawa area MPs, Mona Fortier (Ottawa-Vanier), David McGuinty (Ottawa South), Yasir Naqvi (Ottawa Centre), Anita Vandenbeld (Ottawa West-Nepean), Chanda Arya (Nepean), Pierre Poilievre (Carleton) Marie-France Lalonde (Orléans) will be surrounded by wise counsel and with “Daniels,” who can speak truth, wrapped in love. Deliver them from the temptation to please humans but to yearn to please God. May our MPs not look to human wisdom but seek God’s wisdom.
Those who are in authority will respond to God’s salvation.
